Creative Trike Parking - Ottawa, ON

I went to the Ottawa Westin Hotel yesterday to attend the Ottawa Linux Symposium. I'd never been there before, so I arrived on my new tadpole trike and was unpleasantly surprised by a very odd, vertical bike rack there. So while I was standing there pondering how in the world I was going to lock up to this thing, two very helpful cabbies came to my aid. This was our, um, creative solution. I used two bike spaces, locking my cable to the left loop and my U-lock on the right. Here ya go - here's something you don't see every day. :)

Ottawa, ON - Canadian patriotism!

WOW!! Tonight's men's hockey game was BEYOND exhilarating!!! There was lots of red and white in the crowd, and you could feel the tension thick in the air as we sang and cheered for men's Team Canada. When the U.S. scored and tied the game with only 24 seconds to go, suddenly our hearts were in our throats. Then when Crosby scored the winning goal, we all jumped and yelled and waved flags, and then sang 'O Canada,' in a display of patriotism I've never seen up here, ever. Ne-ver. It brought tears to my eyes to see these people, always so humble and self-deprecating and slow to take credit for anything, positively BEAMING with pride at the things their country could do. This victory, and this 14 gold medal all-time record, were were just what this country needed. Just... just wonderful... {sniff}

Ottawa, ON - Hockey, gold, Canada... need I say more?

We went to a sports bar to watch the Canadian women's hockey team play for Olympic gold. The snow was coming down with a vengeance outside as we all cheered them on to victory. Everyone clapped and whooped and yelled!! Then we bundled up, went outside, brushed the snow off our cars together, and drove home in the snow. It just doesn't get more Canadian than this! Congratulations, ladies!!!! WOOOOOOHOOOOoooo!
